What is Hammerite Metal Finish?
Hammerite Metal Finish is a corrosion resistant decorative coating which provides highly durable protection for all ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

It is based on synthetic resins, fast drying solvents and when fully cured resists all common building materials and splashing by dilute acids/alkalis, petrol and diesel.

How does Hammerite Metal Finish work?
Hammerite Metal Finish is quick drying and capable of multi-coat application in a few hours. The specially selected resins impart a gloss or satin finish which sheds water and resists dirt pick up. Hammerite Metal Finish also contains heat hardened glass flakes which leaf together as the paint dries to provide a highly impermeable barrier to moisture. Hammerite Metal Finish has excellent wetting properties making it tolerant to poorly prepared ferrous surfaces.

Can Hammerite Metal Finish be used on materials other than metal - i.e. wood or plastic?
Plastics (such as drainpipe or guttering)
Yes, before application simply:
Wash down thoroughly with diluted detergent.
Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
Apply Hammerite Metal Finish.

Interior bare wood
Yes, before application simply:

Ensure surface is sound, clean, dry and smooth: abrade if necessary.
Apply a quick-drying water-based acrylic wood primer before applying Hammerite Metal Finish

Interior painted wood
Yes, before application simply:

Abrade to remove contamination and gloss.
Wash down thoroughly with diluted detergent.
Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
Apply Hammerite Metal Finish.
Is Hammerite Metal Finish compatible with other paint products?
Most paint systems are compatible, provided they have been applied at least 6 months before applying Hammerite Metal Finish. If in any doubt, test a patch area first - any incompatibility will be evident in 5-6 hours.
Does Hammerite Metal Finish have any resistance to temperature?
If the item is too hot to touch by human hand Hammerite Metal Finish is not recommended.

There are other special heat resistant paints, including radiator enamel available from Hammerite that are resistant to much higher temperatures.

Check that you have the right tools for the job and enough paint.
Wear goggles and gloves for de-rusting operations, as sharp flakes can cause serious injury.
Give yourself enough time to do the job in comfort without rushing - and if possible in daylight.
If working indoors, leave windows and doors open while painting and during drying times.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS

Prepare well and you won't have to stop halfway through the job to find the tools to complete it. So to make the job quicker and easier here's a list of what you will need:

Blunt screwdriver or old knife
Wire brush
Abrasive paper
Paint brush
Goggles
Protective gloves
Masking tape
Cleaning materials and rags

USING AEROSOLS

Before use shake in a vertical motion for 3 minutes after the agitator ball is heard.
First apply a light mist coat.
Spray light even strokes.
Use a side to side motion.
Keep the can upright.
To prevent blockages turn the aerosol upside down and spray for 2 seconds between coats and after final use.
